Visit to 'Friends of Sandall Park'

The Friends of Sandall Park have been very successful in improving the Park and providing new facilities. Now there's an opportunity for us to visit their site and be shown around, as well as picking their brains as to how they've achieved what they have!

The visit is free and includes light refreshments.  Please make your own way to Sandall Park and meet outside the Café at 2:30pm.

Wednesday 11 August 2010, 7pm
Doncaster & District Heritage Association Meeting

As the Friends are part of the DDHA, this meeting is open to our members.  The special feature of this meeting is a talk by Colin Joy, DMBC Tourism Manager, about his vision for promoting Doncaster and its heritage.  Colin was Tourism Officer in Liverpool when it acquired European City of Culture status, so he has a real track record of success.  This event takes place in Club 39, College Road, Doncaster.  Free car-parking is available in the former bus station across the road after 6pm.

If you wish to attend please advise Richard Bell no later than Friday 6 August, by email or by phoning 07777-688438.

Evening Litter Pick

There are many of our supporters who are unable to make it along to the regular Saturday Working Mornings.  If you are one of those people, or if you'd just like to help anyway, we've arranged this evening session, when you can make a practical contribution towards improving the cemetery.  No specific skills are needed, just your time and enthusiasm.

Please meet at the main Carr Lane entrance at just before 6pm.  For guidance on what you should wear and bring, please see the information below about the Working Mornings.  (However, please note that the toilet and washing facilties will not be available for this evening session).

Working Morning - For details see above.

When & What? - Saturday 14th August is the next of the monthly hands-on sessions, when the Friends will meet at Hyde Park Cemetery, to carry out practical site management activities.  We are there between 9:30 am and 12 noon on the 2nd Saturday of each month, to undertake tasks such as litter-picking, gardening duties and other general, good-housekeeping activities.

What Do You Need To Bring With You? - Please wear clothes that you might wear for gardening, including sturdy footwear (definitely no sandals, please!).  Whilst the Friends can supply disposable gloves, it would help if you could bring your own gardening gloves, if you have some.

Tools & Equipment - As this is quite a new venture for the Friends, we have only a limited amount of equipment available at present.  Nevertheless, this should be sufficient for the time being and we’ll review our requirements as time goes on.

Toilets & Washing Facilities - We are extremely grateful to Adrian Welch, of Adrian Welch Glass and Glazing Ltd, who makes the toilet facilities in his premises available for our use during our Working Mornings.  There are well-equipped and maintained facilities for for both ladies and gents and these are
just a few metres from the cemetery’s Carr Lane gateway.

For more information please contact us.
